1975 WFL Week 2: Running to, and out of, Daylight
The World Football League's second week of action will be remembered for two things, teams running the ball seeminly at will, and the absolute debacle of the Thursday night game at New York's Downing Stadium, a game that started off as a national broadcast and ended as a national punchline. The WFL has a serious issue with their New York team and its disaster of a facility, and it may well have a problem with its defenses, as it seems none of them could defend the run this week, with 8 different backs going over 100 yards, including a 190-yard performance from Jim Nance of the Texans, 176 from Portland's Rufus Ferguson, 150 from Jim Kiick of Memphis, and another duo of backs over 100 as both Tommy Reamon and Perry Williams topped the century mark against the Stars. We will start our coverage with reporting out of New York, yes, the game result, but more importantly, the night the lights came on, but to no avail for the Stars.
