USFL LIVES

AN ALTERNATE HISTORY OF THE UNITED STATES FOOTBALL LEAGUE

Why the USFL?

Since the 1970's there has been a seemingly endless parade of failed rival, developmental, and alternative pro football leagues, an alphabet soup of WFL, XFL, AAF, UFL, and more.  Of all the leagues that tried and failed to offer an alternative to the NFL, only the USFL captured the imagination of the country, and for 3 glorious years it posed a real threat to the longstanding dominance of the NFL.  That it only lasted 3 years says all you need to know.  This site will imagine a world where some breaks went the other way and the league found a way to persist.

HOW TO NAVIGATE THE SITE

With 40 seasons of data, game reports, stories, and stats, there is a lot to manage on this site.  There are really two ways to explore the site.  The first is the use of the buttons below.  These buttons take you to the various subpages of the project, including the library of stories and weekly recaps, but also pages dedicated to USFL franchises, the league history in brief, and the USFL's Hall of Fame players.

To access season-by-season stories, stats, and standings, the easiest way to navigate will almost certainly be the search box below.  Plug in a year (1983-2022) and you should be able to access all of that season's stories, standings, and stats.

Below you will find articles in the order they appeared (newest to oldest) or you could use the keywords to find specific references throughout the 40 years of alt history.  Years, player names, events, and issues all have tags.

USFL STORIES

These appear in order from the most recent (final) published story to the earliest.  To look at a specific year, use the search button above.
