the WFL Reborn
an alternate history of the World Football League
Why the WFL?
In 1974, less than a decade after the AFL and NFL merged, a new league appeared, ready to challenge the NFL, carveout its own identity and place in the American sports scene. But, underfinanced and disorganized, the league lasted only one and a half seasons. This alternate history imagines a world where the WFL avoided the pitfalls of undercapitalization, shaky ownership, bad stadium deals, and disastrous ticket giveaway plans. A World Football League that struggles, but survives, providing football fans, players, coaches, and investors with more options.
