WFL Spring 1974: Chaos & Compromise

The Spring of 1974 proves just how difficult it is to start an enterprise as ambitious as a nationwide pro football league. While some teams seem to come together quickly, and we see our first salvos against the NFL in the form of player signings, we also see a lot of confusion, instability, and quickly changing plans as ownership groups, cities, and stadium authorities try to work out plans for the league and its member teams. As a July kickoff nears, there seem to be more questions than answers, and even reaching the original 12 team lineup seems a challenge as franchise stability proves to be an elusive standard to set.
BTW, in case you had not guessed, occasionally when I have 2 articles and one is not as long as the other, I will create (with some AI help) some fake newspaper ads to fill in the gap and keep both articles to the same space on the page. Plus it adds a fun little bit of the local and the time period to the page.
It's good to see Portland embrace their team amid the chaos! Will Jacksonville do the same?
